Nils Frahm returns to Hamer Hall for the first time in five years

Returning for the first time since 2019 to Arts Centre Melbourne’s impressive Hamer Hall is accomplished composer, producer and celebrated performer Nils Frahm in his Music For Melbourne concert.

Over two incredible nights, 14 & 15 March 2025, Frahm will mesmerise audiences with his textured classical soundscapes and ambient electronica that has garnered him the reputation as both an exceptional instrumentalist and a fascinating live musician.

While Frahm is best known for his elaborate, celebratory concerts calling upon an arsenal of pianos, organs, keyboards, synths, and even a glass harmonica, he’s still a prolific master of affecting simplicity, tenderness and romance.

His unconventional approach to an age-old instrument has strengthened over his numerous tours and concerts capturing audiences with a breath-taking level of emotion, personality and a highly developed sense of restraint in his work.

Since he last visited Melbourne with his All Encores tour, he has been busily making music at his Berlin-based studio, the renowned Funkhaus.

In 2020, Frahm released Empty, a collection of solo upright piano music originally recorded as a sound track to a short film he shot with his friend, and film director, Benoit Toulemonde in 2012. In December 2020, he released the concert film Tripping with Nils Frahm, accompanied by a live album.

In March 2021, he dropped Graz, a previously unreleased piano album, then in September 2021 he unveiled a seven-track album 2X1=4, which unexpectedly explored a dub-influenced universe with his long-time collaborator F.S.Blumm.

Having spent the early part of the pandemic arranging his archives, in December 2021, Frahm published the third edition of his Sheets music book series and released another solo piano album, Old Friends New Friends. The collection of 23 tracks, a compilation of previously unreleased piano music, allowed him to “start over” with a clean slate.

In September 2022, Frahm shared his critically acclaimed, expansive album Music For Animals, which contains 10 tracks and clocks in at more than three hours long. The album is an ambitious and compelling piece of work, different to anything he has released to date.

Earlier this year, in March 2024, Frahm released Day, a new collection of solo piano music which was recorded in the summer of 2022 in complete solitude and away from his studio. Day, which contains six tracks, is the first in a pair of albums he has lined up for 2024.

Pre-sale tickets will be available from 9:00am AEDT on Tuesday 22 October. General public tickets will then go on sale from 9:00am AEDT on Friday 25 October.
