In November 2011, AussieTheatre exclusively announced that the premiere Sydney season of Next To Normal would take place in 2012. Today we are thrilled to confirm some more exciting details about this Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning musical, which will be making its Sydney debut at the stunning Capitol Theatre, Haymarket.

Presented by Newline Productions, (the company which brought Sydney audiences the acclaimed Tick, Tick…Boom! in 2011) Next To Normal will be playing for a limited season from 13 September to 7 October 2012.

As previously announced, Tyran Parke will direct the Australian cast, with Kelley Abbey joining the creative team as Associate Director and Peter Rutherford (composer of the acclaimed Australian musical The Hatpin) as Musical Director. Abbey, who most recently directed the Australian revival of FAME! will also be assisting with the Musical Staging of the show’s electrifying contemporary score and more than 30 original songs.

The creative team are currently finalising casting for the show, with an announcement expected soon.

“I’m thrilled with the calibre of performers who auditioned and I believe we have ended up with the ‘Dream Team’ to bring this beautiful and challenging piece of theatre to life”, director Tyran Parke told AussieTheatre today.

“I’m delighted to have Kelley Abbey and Peter Rutherford to collaborate with, and look forward to announcing our wonderful cast shortly, once the final roles are confirmed”, he said.

While Next To Normal’s Australian premiere at the Melbourne Theatre Company was well received, it is understood that this production will be re-imagined by Parke, giving composer Tom Kitt and lyricist Brian Yorkey’s story a fresh look in Sydney.

Dealing with complex issues like mental health and family struggles, this production is set to appeal to a wide demographic. Deviating from the ticketing trends in Australian music theatre of late, ticket prices start at just $45, so the production is also sure to appeal to the purse strings of Sydney siders

Tickets for this exciting new production are on sale from MONDAY 23 APRIL via ticketmaster.com.au
