New York’s Broadway on Demand partners with Australian Theatre Live to showcase Australian artists to American audiences

In a ground-breaking partnership,  Australian Theatre Live, the premier arts subscription online platform, has joined forces with Broadway On Demand in America, projected to reach over 200 million households. This collaboration marks a significant milestone, opening the doors for Australian theatre, music and opera to captivate audiences across the United States for the first time.

Australian Theatre Live has become a beacon for quality productions, showcasing the immense talent within the Australian live performing arts scene. Through this partnership with Broadway On Demand, American audiences will now have the opportunity to experience the rich diversity and creativity of Australian performers, writers, and directors from the comfort of their homes.

“We are thrilled to partner with Broadway On Demand to bring the best of Australian theatre and opera to American audiences. This collaboration not only strengthens the bond between our two countries but also provides a platform for Australian artists to reach a wider audience in the world’s biggest arts market,” said Grant Dodwell, Creative Producer of Australian Theatre Live.

Grant said:

This five-year, worldwide distribution agreement features 25 mainstage and independent productions involving more than 80 actors, with works spanning theatre, music, and opera. The deal highlights a trend which has seen the Australian stage launch the careers of many popular Aussie actors across both stage and screen, including Hugh Jackman, Mel Gibson, Cate Blanchette and Sarah Snook among many others.

Broadway On Demand is an Emmy Award nominated streaming platform for theatrical content, known for distributing more than 1,000 live productions in 2020, its inaugural year, and is now one of the leaders for live and on-demand theatre content worldwide.  “This partnership with Australian Theatre Live aligns with our commitment to bringing exceptional theatrical experiences to audiences worldwide. We believe that the inclusion of Australian productions will enrich the diversity of our offerings and provide American viewers with a unique cultural experience,” said Senior Vice President, Jeffery Keilholtz, at Broadway On Demand.

The collaboration will not only benefit US audiences but also serve as a catalyst for cultural exchange and collaboration between the Australian and American entertainment industries. This innovative initiative aims to foster cross-cultural understanding and appreciation for the arts on a global scale.

Australian Theatre Live and Broadway On Demand are excited about the potential impact of this partnership on the international arts landscape. As Australian productions find a new audience in the United States, the creative voices of Australian artists will resonate in the hearts and minds of viewers across America.
