New Theatre launches 2025 Season
A message from Artistic Director, Louise Fischer:
We’re announcing our season a little later than usual, but I think you’ll agree it’s worth the wait, with a full compliment of eight shows, including two world premieres and two Australian premieres!
We kick off in February with our Mardi Gras+ production, the Australian premiere of The Flea by James Fritz, a surreal true story of deceit and corruption set against the world of male brothels in Victorian England.
Our second show is the world premiere of the 2022 Silver Gull Play Award winner, Fighting by Sydney playwright Xavier Coy.
Then comes Sarah Ruhl’s clever, funny and provocative play In the Next Room (or The Vibrator Play); a new version of an infamous story of love and revenge: Dangerous Liaisons adapted by Deborah Mulhall from the novel by Choderlos de Laclos in an Australian premiere production; and an irreverent take-down of the patriarchy in Hir by Taylor Mac.
These are followed by The Frogs: in Hell They Sing Show-Tunes, a fresh adaptation by Alex Kendall Robson of the Ancient Greek comedy by Aristophanes in a world premiere production.

Rounding out the season, it’s the ground-breaking verbatim work that changed US law, The Laramie Project by Moisés Kaufman and Members of the Tectonic Theater Project, and to end the year, what better than a 20th century comedy classic: Present Laughter by Noël Coward.
I’m excited to be joined be a group of dynamic and imaginative directors. Returning to lead shows are Patrick Howard (Once in Royal David’s City, Control), Emma Whitehead (The Chocolate Roster), Alex Kendall Robson (Homos, or Everyone in America) and Mark G Nagle (Fucking Men, Beautiful Thing) and we welcome Patrick Kennedy, Xavier Coy and Tasha O’Brien, all making their New Theatre directorial debuts.
We look forward to seeing you in at New Theatre throughout 2025.
