New GM for Griffin

Chairman of Griffin Theatre Company Michael Bradley has announced that Simon Wellington will take up the position of General Manager from April 7, 2011.

Chairman of Griffin Theatre Company Michael Bradley has announced that Simon Wellington will take up the position of General Manager from April 7, 2011.

Wellington, who is currently Business Operations Manager for the City of Sydney and previously General Manager of Urban Theatre Projects for six years, replaces exiting General Manager Nathan Bennett.

“This is a fantastic appointment for Griffin,” Wellington said.

“Simon has a very impressive history of working with a wide variety of arts organisations including the Urban Theatre Project and Ten Days on the Island. His passion for theatre and his commitment to the production of Australian stories made him the ideal candidate for the job.”

Artistic Director Sam Strong said it was an exciting time.

“I am thrilled that Simon has come on board as Griffin’s new General Manager,” he said.

“Griffin is poised at a unique and exciting moment in its 30 year history of telling the best Australian stories. The company is establishing itself as the third force in Sydney’s main stage landscape and as one of the most innovative and energetic arts organisations in the country. This would not be possible without the foundations laid by departing General Manager Nathan Bennett and I pay tribute to his dynamism, rigor and vision.”

Simon brings to Griffin a wide range of experience in arts management positions.

“It’s an exciting time to join the company, with artistic director Sam Strong bringing a fresh energy to the stories we tell, a raft of exciting collaborations, and a significant commitment to support programs for artists and their practice,” he said.
