Naomi Livingston
Performer and writer Naomi Livingston will be joining the AussieTheatre team from next week as a regular columnist.
An actor, musician, composer and first time mother, Livingston is currently performing in Cameron Mackintosh’s current Australian tour of Les Miserables. She is a WAAPA graduate, but only after a detour via an arts degree where she majored in Theoretical Performance Study and Psychology.
This year, Livingston will bring a selection of ‘Everyday Essays’, with insights into her thoughts and experiences in the arts, to AussieTheatre readers in her new regular column.
“I’ve always felt I’m a much more clarified person on paper. Talk to me in person and I garble, over-compensate for my introversion and ruin the delivery of punchlines. So I decided it was time to bite the bullet and put my thoughts down on paper knowing they aren’t particularly ground-breaking but are ideas that are always good to be reminded of, and encourage each other about”, Livingston said.
“I certainly hope at the most basic level that the theatrical folk of Australia appreciate the insight into one performer’s thoughts/experiences and at best find similarities or new perspectives that can either inspire a new energy to their own work, or find greater appreciation or understanding of other creatives work”.
Her first essay “Between Dreams and Reality” will be published early next week.
“Naomi is an elegant writer and a wonderful performer and I’m certain her writing style will resonate with our readers”, Editor Erin James said today. “I am thrilled to welcome her to the team and cannot wait to read her thoughts on life in the arts.”
Naomi and her husband Drew recently released an album – So Long Lives This – which is featured on AussieTheatre’s recordings page.
