MTC and Cinema Nova present the exclusive cinematic premiere of MTC Digital Theatre’s THE HEARTBREAK CHOIR

This November, Melbourne Theatre Company is partnering with Cinema Nova to present the theatrical premiere of MTC Digital Theatre’s THE HEARTBREAK CHOIR; a funny and uplifting celebration of music, friendship and community brought to life on the big screen.

Launched in 2021, MTC Digital Theatre captures select Melbourne Theatre Company productions in high definition, bringing world-class artists and storytelling from stage to screen. Filmed in front of a live audience at Southbank Theatre in Melbourne, MTC Digital Theatre’s THE HEARTBREAK CHOIR will mark the first cinematic release of an MTC Digital Theatre production. Carlton’s Cinema Nova will be the exclusive Melbourne home of MTC Digital Theatre cinema screenings.

Brought to the stage by The Architect’s Peter Houghton, THE HEARTBREAK CHOIR is a joyful, song-filled snapshot of a devastated community learning how to heal. This emotionally resonant MTC NEXT STAGE commission is the last work from playwright Aidan Fennessy – a fitting final act of togetherness. The first public session will kick off on Saturday November 26 for a limited season. See session times here.

Following an acclaimed stage season, Melbourne Theatre Company brings this funny and uplifting celebration of music, friendship, and community to the big screen. Exclusive to Cinema Nova, THE HEARTBREAK CHOIR is a warm-hearted hug of a play that will make you want to sing out loud.
