Audiences still have a 7 month wait until the Australian premiere of Legally Blonde The Musical, but fans need wait no longer for an official supporting and ensemble cast announcement.

Producers Howard Panter and John Frost have announced a further 18 cast members including Ali Calder (Spring Awakening) as Vivienne, Renee Burleigh (Love Never Dies) as Margot, Ashlea Pyke (Hairspray) as Serena, Chloe Zuel (Hairspray) as Pilar and Mike Snell (Wicked) as Kyle.

The previously announced principal cast will also be joined by ensemble members Michelle Barr, Ash Bee, Ryan Gonzalez, Ed Grey, Matt Hamilton, Glenn Hill, Shaye Hopkins, Zoe Jarrett, Nicole Melloy, Elenoa Rokobaro, Andrew Ronay-Jenkings, Darren Tyler, Stephen Wheat and Teagan Wouters.

Legally Blonde will have its Australian Premiere at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre on October 4, 2012 and co-producers Howard Panter and John Frost are confident that Sydney audiences will take this blockbuster musical into their hearts.

“We’re thrilled with how Sydney has embraced Legally Blonde since we announced the principal cast”, said Howard Panter and John Frost.

“In the UK, audiences have responded to the show’s wit, charm and pure joy, and critics have been united in their praise of the quality and sophisticated style of the show. It has touched a very wide audience, from youngsters to grandmothers and middle-aged male accountants. And they’re all coming back to see it a second and third time. From the response we’ve had in Australia so far, we can see it’s going to have the same sort of reaction here.”

The coveted role of Elle Woods will be played by Lucy Durack, best known as the good witch Glinda from the blockbuster musical Wicked. Lucy spoke with AussieTheatre about her audition experiences at the Sydney launch.

Playing alongside Durack are two of the leading men from the Australian musical theatre stage, Rob Mills as Warner and David Harris as Emmett.

Rob Mills also took time out to speak with the AussieTheatre team about his audition process and performing with David and Lucy.

It is understood that some roles in the show still have not been cast, including Paulette – Elle’s lovelorn beautician and close confidante. Producer John Frost says the casting process is thorough and will take time to finalise.

“We are still casting in Melbourne next week”, Frost told AussieTheatre today. “The London and New York teams have to approve all casting, so I think it will be some time yet”.

Sydney auditions for various roles, including Paulette, took place late last week.

Directed and Choreographed by Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray), Legally Blonde was secured for Sydney with the assistance of the NSW Government through Destination NSW and the City of Sydney.

No tours have been announced at this stage.

  • This is so cool!!!! Chloe and Mike will be awesome in their roles!!! Havent seen Ali before but no doubt she will be able to do Vivienne justice and hit that amazing high note in Legally Blonde Remix. Great to see Zoe Jarrett coming back to Oz (lol), interesting to see who will take the standby role in the Wicked Asian Tour.
