A trip to the theatre can be expensive, but for the next 4 weeks, the producers of Moonshadow are offering a limited number of Broadway-style lottery seats for $35 per performance.
Many Broadway shows famously run last-minute-rush lotteries for cheap tickets prior to each performance, encouraging a theatre going culture among students, artists and tourists.
The Moonshadow lottery will work in a similar fashion, with names to be collected 2.5 hour before each performance at the Princess Theatre Box Office. Winners will be drawn 2 hours prior to the performance and must be (with valid photo ID) when their names are called, or they will forfeit their tickets. Maximum 2 tickets per person, and payment of $35 per ticket must be by cash only.
AussieTheatre.com’s Editor in Chief, Erin James, praised the producers for bringing the lottery system to Melbourne.
“It is so important for students and actors to see as much theatre as possible and it is often a costly exercise. These $35 tickets are a great way to see a musical on a shoe-string budget”, she said.
“Wicked introduced the lottery system during its run and now Moonshadow has run with the idea. This is a brand new musical, and it is certainly worth seeing – especially for acting students and writers.”

Hmmm... there was also a Wicked lottery for the entire run in Melbourne (and Sydney). It's great that they're doing it, but they're certainly not the first in town!
