Miss Saigon to return to Australia within the next two years?

Does Sir Cameron Mackintosh ever rest? His productions are internationally renowned and consistently staged — his revival of Les Miserables is even playing in Sydney right now.

But we could all be in for more!

The critically acclaimed West End revival of Miss Saigon has, according to Broadway.com, just announced it will close on February 27, 2016 to make room for the London premiere of Aladdin. 

The production, which has received rave reviews (and featured or has featured Australian actors Tamsin Carroll and Natalie Mendoza – who understudied Kim and Mimi in the original Australian production) is slated to have a new life on Broadway very soon.

The report continues:

[Miss Saigon]’s producer, Cameron Mackintosh, said in a statement that transfers of the production are “planned to open in Germany, Australia and Broadway in the next two years.”

Miss Saigon came to Australia first in 1995, starring Peter Cousens, Joanna Ampil, Milton Craig Nealy, Darren Yap, and Silive Paladino. Australia’s last splashy outing with this beautiful re-telling of Madame Butterfly was in 2007, with a cast led by David Harris, Laurie Cadevida, Sophie Katinis, Leo Valdez and RJ Rosales.
