Melbourne, this one’s for you

In the week leading up to Valentine’s Day, the iconic L’amour sign from the MOULIN ROUGE! film will be re-created on the steps of the Regent Theatre to celebrate the return of theatre to Melbourne.

The installation will be open daily to the public 8-14 February inclusive.

Melburnians can show their love for theatre and our great city with the week-long L’amour sign installed on the red carpet steps of the Regent Theatre.

Melbourne is the first city to host Moulin Rouge! The Musical since its Broadway debut. The Regent Theatre season coincides with the 20^th anniversary year of Baz Luhrmann’s revolutionary film MOULIN ROUGE!

As an Australian business, to be able to proceed with our Melbourne production, and be in a position where we are now hiring cast and crew, is a tremendous privilege. The iconic line – ‘To Truth, Beauty, Freedom and, above all, Love’ – is indeed very close to home this year. We love theatre, we love the joy it brings, and we cannot wait for the red windmill to start turning in Melbourne.

• Open to the public daily from Midday to 9PM.
• Guests are required to adhere to all COVID-Safe requirements, including social distancing and only attending if in good health.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical celebrates over 160 years of music from Offenbach to Lady Gaga. Featuring over 70 songs, the production includes many of the iconic hits from the movie as well as new additions from Adele, Katy Perry, Sia, Beyonce, Rihanna and more.

After an out-of-town Boston run in 2018, the 2019 Broadway debut of Moulin Rouge! The Musicalastounded reviewers – The New York Times’ Ben Brantley declaring the show his Critics Pick – “In Moulin Rouge, life is beautiful.” The production broke box office records for the Al Hirschfeld theatre, scored a Grammy nomination for the Original Cast Recording, a Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of a Musical and ten Outer Critics Award Honours.

In October 2020 Moulin Rouge! The Musical was honoured with 14 Tony Award nominations including Best Musical. The production was the first Australian-produced musical to originate on Broadway.
