MAY AS WELL PRODUCTIONS Present SABOTAGE

Flights are grounded and futures delayed as Sabotage makes its world premiere at The Motley Bauhaus this December, marooning two versions of the same traveller in Melbourne’s strangest departure lounge.

In his playwriting debut, writer-performer Harrison Clark channels Waiting for Godot after a breakup, charged with bisexual angst and vape juice as he squares off with Declan Magee (The Milk Bar, Metro) in a wry, surreal showdown with the quarter-life crisis. Clark co-produces alongside director Maya Britbart Ellazam, returning to theatre after the critically acclaimed Teeth & Tonic (Melbourne Fringe 2022, La Mama Courthouse 2024). Together they transform Tullamarine into a liminal crossroads where self-love collides with self-sabotage.

Set to board a one-way flight to destination unknown, the Protagonist’s escape plan stalls when the Antagonist, an older version of themselves, re-enters their life with an intervention disguised as a reunion.

What begins as a pleasant surprise spirals into a duel of stubborn wills, bruised egos and missed connections — and no one’s quite ready to board when they’re mid-breakdown, clutching onto a version of self-worth that won’t sit still.

The production reunites Britbart Ellazam and Clark following their previous collaboration on Brunch Ballads. Britbart Ellazam, founder of May As Well Productions and co-founder of Eleven O’Clock Theatre, has directed and produced everything from new Australian works (Teeth & Tonic, The Breaths in Between, Brunch Ballads) to award-winning beloved musicals (The Drowsy Chaperone).

Clark has trained in New York and London (AADA, RADA) and has appeared in Fisk, La Brea and that AAMI “Fansurance” ad where he was repeatedly hit in the head with a football.

Cracking open the absurd pressure cooker of five-year plans, Sabotage digs into the uneasy truce between where we’ve been and where we long to be, weighed down by baggage and twenty-something growing pains. Because when your older self turns up at the gate with questions you don’t want answered, there’s no refund, only turbulence.
