Australia is bursting with musical theatre talent, and very soon, one of our most remarkable is taking her rightful place in a very “Loud” role: Marika Aubrey will play the brash Mrs Wormwood in the upcoming Australian premiere of Matilda the Musical.
Aubrey has been part of some of the best musicals on stage recently, like the gorgeous Opera Australia production of South Pacific and the dazzling Hayes Theatre resurrection of Miracle City.
And a few years ago, as part of Trevor Ashley’s Showqueen series – which played every Sunday in February in celebration of Mardi Gras – Aubrey took over the tiny stage at Ginger’s.
She sang an inspired new arrangement of “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair.” It was an immediate and spellbinding moment.
