Magical production to play Adelaide, then Broadway

Secret revelation and truths of a nine year old: the magical production The Book of Everything is about big dreams, imagination, spirit and curiosity. 

 Albert Einstein once said “Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere”, and for nine-year-old Thomas, this couldn’t be more true.  The magical production The Book of Everything is about big dreams, imagination, spirit and curiosity. Directed by Neil Armfield, this moving tale follows the story of a child who sees things others cannot imagine, and whose spirit and curiosity wins over those around him. Armfield – director of famed shows such as Cloudstreet, Keating! and the feature film Candy – will be taking this show to Broadway to play at the New Victory Theatre in 2012, but Adelaide audiences will have the chance to see the show before it opens on the Great White Way.  “[The Book of Everything] has enormous spirit and celebrates the ability children have to let their imaginations roam. It’s a funny, generous show that will grab your heart and challenge your mind, no matter how old you are”, says Armfield.   Presented by the Adelaide Festival Centre & Windmill Theatre The Book of Everything is told through the eyes of nine-year old Thomas, and features the quirky and captivating characters Jesus, the angels, the Bottombiter, the startling Mrs Van Amersfoort and a beautiful girl with a leather leg. Based on an original novel written by the award-winning Dutch children’s writer Guus Kuijer, it was adapted for the stage by Richard Tulloch, one of Australia’s leading writers of books, plays and television for young audiences, including the hugely successful children’s play Hating Alison Ashley.  Starring Julie Forsyth, Claire Jones, Deborah Kennedy, John Leary, Rebecca Massey, Lucia Mastrantone, Pip Miller and Matthew Whittet the show is a co-production by Belvoir and Kim Carpenter’s Theatre of Image. The Book of Everything will be playing at Her Majesty’s Theatre Adelaide from 17 -27 August 2011.
