Lucy Maunder joins Matilda cast as new Miss Honey, Brisbane

Lucy Maunder will join the Australian company of Matilda The Musical as Miss Honey when the show tours to Brisbane and Perth from November this year.

Maunder is currently starring as Heather Chandler in Heathers at Arts Centre Melbourne and has appeared in leading roles in more than 10 major musicals during her varied and successful career.

Before Heathers, Lucy Maunder appeared in the QTC/MTC co-production of Ladies in Black in both Brisbane and Melbourne, starred as Rizzo in the Australian national tour of Grease, and she created the role of Lara in Lucy Simon’s Doctor Zhivago, opposite Anthony WarlowShe has appeared in roles in various Sondheim works including Into the Woods, A Little Night Music, Side by Side by Sondheim and Sondheim on Sondheim.

Maunder played Gertrude Laurence in Noël and Gertie, opposite Matilda’s own James Millar (as Noël Coward) and Polly in Michael Kantor’s production of The Threepenny Opera. In international tours, Lucy has performed as Emma Crew in Jekyll and Hyde and Janet in The Rocky Horror Show (TML Enterprises).

Lucy will be taking over from Elise McCann who originated Miss Honey in the Australian production.

Matilda The Musical will play Brisbane’s Lyric Theatre at QPAC from 25 November 2016 with tickets on sale from 9.00am EST today – Thursday, May 19. The show will then transfer to Perth’s Crown Theatre from February 2017.  Ticketing details to follow.

With music and lyrics by Australia’s own Tim Minchin, Matilda The Musical is based on the beloved novel by best-selling author Roald Dahl and tells the story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny.
