Lucy Maunder joins the cast of Beautiful – The Carole King Musical

Lucy Maunder is set to join the cast of Beautiful – The Carole King Musical when it arrives in Melbourne later this month, taking over the role of Cynthia Weil from Amy Lehpamer. Maunder, whose performance as Miss Honey in the Australian/NZ tour of Matilda gained her a Helpmann Award nomination, is currently rehearsing ahead the Melbourne opening at Her Majesty’s Theatre.

“It’s an honour to be joining the cast of Beautiful. Having seen the show I have huge shoes to fill.” said Maunder. “The entire company have created something spectacular. It’s a brilliantly crafted story, with a huge amount of heart and I’m so excited for Melbourne audiences to see it at the Maj. I’ve no doubt they’ll adore it too. So many brilliant moments celebrating the life and songs of Carole King.”

The show, which has enjoyed critical and commercial success in its Australian premiere season at Sydney’s newly refurbished Lyric Theatre, will transfer to Melbourne from February 16 before continuing on to Brisbane in July and Adelaide in December.

Starring Esther Hannaford as Carole King – the most successful female songwriter of the 20th century, the cast also includes Josh Piterman as Gerry Goffin, Mat Verevis as Barry Mann, stage veterans Mike McLeish and Anne Wood as Don Kirshner and King’s mother Genie Klein, respectively.

The heart-warming production has received a cavalcade of glowing reviews since the official Australian premiere on 23 September. Audiences have fallen in love with the inspirational true story of the most successful female songwriter of the 20th century.

Beautiful – The Carole King Musical opens at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne on February 16. For more information and ticket details visit: Beautifulmusical.com.au.
