The Hayes Theatre Co is in its final stages of preparation, ready for the doors to open this evening for the first preview of their debut show, Sweet Charity.

After winning the bid for the lease of the old Darlinghurst Theatre – now renamed and rebranded as the Hayes Theatre Co – a not for profit partnership between six Sydney based production companies was established to focus on providing a “permanent home for small-scale musical theatre and cabaret” in the Sydney theatre scene.

Luckiest Productions and Neil Gooding Productions, two of the six companies invested in Hayes Theatre Co are co-presenting Sweet Charity, which stars Verity Hunt-Ballard, Martin Crewes and Debora Krizak and is directed by Dean Bryant, choreographed by Andrew Hallsworth and musically directed by Andrew Warboys.

David Campbell, one of the Hayes Theatre Co board members and producer of Sweet Charity told AussieTheatre that he “couldn’t be more excited” about tonight’s momentous occasion.

“It is not only the beginning of a show, but hopefully the beginning of an era for the local community and musical theatre goers”, he said.

Over the last month, volunteers have flooded into the venue; painting, sanding and sewing to create a new look for the premises. David Campbell will be not only be looking forward to being a patron at the bar, but also might be serving you!

“My wife, Lisa and I are taking our RSA (responsible service of alcohol) course tomorrow.  This is very much a team effort, so we have to be prepared to help out in any way we can.”

Tickets are available for all productions at hayestheatre.com.au as well as information about how you can donate or volunteer.
