Les Miserables Australian tour ends after 19 months on the road

The Australian tour of Boublil & Schönberg’s legendary musical, Les Misérables completed its final performance in Brisbane this afternoon after 19 months and 588 performances.

Premiering in Melbourne on June 22nd 2014, the production has had seasons in Perth, Sydney and Brisbane and has won numerous awards including a Green Room Award, Sydney’s Sunday Telegraph Party of the Year and is nominated for 4 Sydney Theatre Awards which will be announced tomorrow. In 2015 the production also scooped the pool at the Helpmann Awards, winning in 5 categories including Best Musical, Best Male Actor in a Musical (Simon Gleeson) , Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical (Kerrie Anne Greenland), Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design.

Many of the stars set to join international productions. Simon Gleeson will lead Les Mis in Manila and Singapore, starring alongside Rachelle Ann Go, from the West End Les Mis family, and Earl Carpenter, from Broadway. Hayden Tee will stride onto Broadway as Javert, a performance that won him a Green Room Award and Patrice Tipoki will head to the West End to reprise her role as Fantine, before joining Gleeson in the Singapore production next May.

“I am extremely proud of this production and all it has achieved in its 19 month run in Australia, working with a new generation of Australian talent. It continues to be a thrill for me to see my productions enjoyed the world over delighting audiences and proving big hits at the box office. Les Misérables is a truly unique show and I am so grateful that it still provides me and audiences alike with the same enjoyment and fulfilment as it did 30 years ago when I debuted it on the West End.” said Cameron Mackintosh.
