La Boite Theatre Company (QLD) kicks off it’s 2012 season with Shakespeare’s most joyous comedy, As You Like It.
Helen Howard and Thomas Larkin lead the ensemble, in this hilarious romps about Rosalind (Howard), who falls in love with the younger Orlando (Larkin) at a wrestling match (as you do). Banished from the city by her usurping uncle, she disguises herself as a man (as you would), and with her best friend Celia at her side, she seeks refuge in the magical Forest of Arden where she meets Orlando again and teaches him the art of love, just as she likes it. “I know Helen Howard will delight and inspire as Rosalind, Shakespeare’s greatest female creation, and I could think of no better Orlando than Thom, who gave us such a scintillating Mark Antony in Julius Caesar – what a gorgeous pairing” said La Boite’s Artistic Director, David Berthold. Also starring in the production are acclaimed actors Luke Cadden, Helen Cassidy, Kathryn Marquet, Dominic Nimo, Bryan Probets, Hayden Spencer, Trevor Stuart and Kate Wilson. In the supporting cast La Boite welcomes four actors from QUT: Thomas Carney, Jerome Meyer, Alec Snow and Mahala Wallace, and four from Southbank Institute of Technology: Hanna Galbraith, Thomas Hutchins, Jordan Kadell and Lucy-Ann Langkilde to make up this wonderful cast. David Berthold believes that this production will be a highlight of the 2012 season. Utilising 8 acting students from QUT and Southbank Institute of Technology makes for La Boite’s biggest production in years..
“La Boite’s theatre is perfect for Shakespeare: it’s open and alive and allows actors and audiences to come together to share the joy” said Berthold.
“As You Like It tells us that ‘all the world’s a stage’ and here it will be, with ten actors joined by eight student actors from QUT and Southbank Institute of Technology. This production will be outrageous fun – Shakespeare just as you like it”.
