King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will be bringing their 2025 Phantom Island Orchestral Tour to the Sydney Opera House for their first-ever orchestral concerts with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra led by conductor Chad Kelly.
The prolific Australian band will play select songs from their vast catalogue including neverbefore heard songs off their forthcoming album, Phantom Island. For over a decade we have come to expect the unexpected from this extraordinary genre-hopping ensemble, and these once-in-a-lifetime concerts are no exception.
With an incredible 27 albums, 13 of them charting in the Top 20 in Australia, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are now arguably one of the country’s most innovative rock bands.
Extensive international touring and festival headline appearances throughout North America and Europe have garnered much international critical acclaim for their rave/orchestral sets, along with an ever-growing fervent fanbase who share endless memes, mixes, videos, and theories, as they explore and expand on what devotees have coined ‘The Gizzverse’.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s Stu Mackenzie Commented:
We wanted orchestral arrangements, to recontextualise our new songs. Chad Kelly’s (British historical keyboardist, conductor and arranger) worlds are usually European opera houses, symphony orchestras and music from hundreds of years ago. He brings this wealth of musical awareness to his chameleon-like arrangements. Chad and I have these electrifying conversations about music.
We come from such different worlds he plays Mozart and Bach and uses the same harp sichords they did and tunes them the exact same way. But he’s obsessed with microtonal music, too, and all this nerdy stuff like me.
