Kate Gould to step down as ASO Chair

Adelaide Symphony Orchestra Chair Kate Gould has announced that she will conclude her tenure in the role at the end of her three-year term in August 2021.

Ms Gould, recently appointed CEO/Artistic Director of the Brisbane Powerhouse, Said:

She regretfully took the decision not to renew in light of the recent spate of snap COVID lockdowns and border closures.

Given the uncertainty around COVID and the prospect of it continuing for some time still, I feel that I can no longer perform the role of ASO Chair to the level required at this important time for the organisation.

It certainly had been my intention and desire to continue as Chair of the ASO, but I suspect interstate travel will remain a challenge for some time to come.

Mr Andrew Daniels, ASO Director and Chair of the ASO’s Governance Committee, will act as interim Chair with a recruitment process already underway.

ASO Managing Director, Mr Vincent Ciccarello, Said:

That all at the ASO were very disappointed that Ms Gould would not continue as Chair.

Kate is held in very high esteem, and over the past three years, she has been a terrific advocate and ambassador for the ASO, not least in our quest for our own home and for a centre for music for South Australia. But we understand and respect her decision, especially in light of ongoing disruptions from COVID.

HeSaid:

We want to thank Kate for her contribution to the ASO and know that she will continue to wave the flag for us, and wish her every success in her new roles at the Brisbane Powerhouse.

Kate Gould added:

I’m saddened to leave the orchestra as the privilege of serving this important cultural organisation has been a pleasure in spite of the recent challenges.

I will miss the ASO. Our last concert brought tears to my eyes. If COVID has taught us anything, live classical music is a gift to be cherished.
