Karis Oka’s show-stopping “Dead Mom” performance drops online as Australian Beetlejuice gains momentum

Australia’s production of Beetlejuice The Musical has released the first official video from its Melbourne season a full, high-definition capture of Karis Oka singing ‘Dead Mom’. The clip gives fans a close-up look at Oka’s acclaimed turn as goth teenager Lydia Deetz and arrives as the blockbuster prepares to extend its run through the remainder of 2025 before heading to Sydney next year.

Oka, an emerging talent familiar to musical-theatre fans from Fangirls and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, leads an all-Australian cast under director Alex Timbers’ original Broadway vision. Her rendition of ‘Dead Mom’ Lydia’s grief-stricken plea to connect with her late mother, has been singled out by critics for its emotional force and powerhouse vocals, drawing nightly mid-show ovations.
