Josh Piterman to play The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera in the West End

Australian performer Josh Piterman will take over as The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera on the West End from September this year.

Josh Piterman

A perennial Australian leading man of musical theatre, Piterman has appeared as Tony in West Side Story, Corny Collins in Hairspray, Giuseppe in The Light in the Piazza, Jamie in The Last Five Years, Gus in Cats and most recently Gerry Goffin in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.

He has also released his debut self-titled album which went to number 1 on both the Australia Aria and iTunes Charts. You can find the album on Apple Music and Spotify.

We spoke to Josh yesterday and he had this to say about his upcoming adventure:

“This show is special on so many levels and to play The Phantom is quite literally a boyhood dream. I’m eternally grateful to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh for granting me such a wonderful opportunity. I can’t wait to get stuck into rehearsals and join the company!” Josh Piterman

Australians are well represented in the current cast of Phantom in London, with WAAPA grad Amy Manford playing Christine Daaé at certain performances, Paul Ettore Tabone in the role of Piangi and Emily Hodge in the ensemble. WAAPA Graduate Corinne Cowling will be joining the cast as the Christine Daaé understudy.

The production is entering its 34th year on the West End and tickets are currently on sale up until April 2020.
