Jersey Boys finally began the next leg of its Australasian tour last Saturday 14 April with a roof raising opening at the Civic theatre in Auckland.

This long awaited opening night in New Zealand opening begins the next chapter of this smash hit show, which opened at the Princess Theatre Melbourne in 2009.

The production has been substantially re-cast since its last performance in Sydney (2011) but the new cast have admirably risen to the occasion with great style. Reviews for the Auckland premiere has been overwhelmingly positive and the opening night audience were wildly enthusiastic giving the show an immediate standing ovation.

Two of the Jersey Boys are new to the company and are giving terrific performances; Anthony Harkin as Tommy De Vito and Dion Bilios as Frankie Valli (with another newcomer Grahame Foote stepping into the role of Frankie at certain performances). Original cast member Glaston Toft continues to create magic as Nick Massi and Declan Egan (Bob Guadio from the latter part of the Sydney season) performs the role with great charisma.

An interesting addition to the cast is Lisa Adam who returns to the role of Mary – a role she created in the original Australian season of the show.

Michael Griffiths steps into the role of Bob Crewe and the rest of the cast ensure the show is going to look world class and terrific for the rest of its long tour around Australia.

Jersey Boys will open at the Lyric Theatre QPAC for a Brisbane Season on July 15 ahead of a season in Adelaide in October 2012
