Jersey Boys Dry Out for a Good Cause.

It is fair to say that for the original Four Seasons, the idea of an alcohol free month would not have gone down well, no matter what the cause. Not so for the 4 young men currently playing the Four Seasons in the Australian production of Jersey Boys at the Theatre Royal, Sydney.

Stephen Mahy, Glaston Toft, Ben Mingay and Bobby Fox have all signed on for Dry July 2011, a month long alcohol-free charity event, and are doing their part to raise money to help adults with cancer.

Speaking with Stephen Mahy today, he explained that the initial idea was sparked by fellow “Jersey Boy” Ben Mingay, but once the other guys got wind of it they were more than happy to jump on board.

“It is for a great cause, the cause is helping hospitals maintain wellness centres. Areas that allow cancer sufferers to have access to comfortable surroundings while they undertake their treatment’, Mahy said. 

Steve also went on to say that he saw it as a personal challenge, “as soon as someone says that I can’t do something, then that’s all I want to do, although I think I am finding it easier than some of the guys.”

This year Dry July is supporting 13 different hospitals covering every State and Territory, and all funds raised through this ‘sponsored month of abstinence from alcohol’ will go to helping the hospitals provide for cancer patients across the country. 

The hospitals have each requested money for specific items, ranging from medical equipment to specific items to improve the comfort of patients.
