Jersey Boys announces return Melbourne season, 2013

They’re just too good to be true: Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons are coming home to Melbourne!

Jersey Boys has been one of Australia’s greatest musical success stories, playing for 13 months in Melbourne, 15 months in Sydney and a successful season in Auckland since its opening in July 2009.

The show will open at QPAC in Brisbane this week, at the Adelaide Festival Centre in October and it was announced today that the  four blue collar boys from New Jersey will play a return season at the Princess Theatre, Melbourne from January 2013.

A strictly limited 14 week season at the Jersey Boys’ original Australian home in Melbourne has been scheduled after nearly four years – a fitting end to the Jersey Boys tour.

“Due to overwhelming demand from audiences across Victoria we are coming back to Melbourne for a final 14 week season”, said Producer Rodney Rigby.

Jersey Boys has now surpassed My Fair Lady as the 19th longest running show on Broadway, and is an example of how successful musical theatre can be in Australia. Like other blockbuster shows (Wicked, Mary Poppins, The Lion King) Jersey Boys has contributed significantly to Australia’s economy and arts profile. The original Melbourne season played 453 performances brought $108.3 million into the Victorian economy.

“We are thrilled to bring Jersey Boys back to Melbourne where our now extraordinary journey down under first began”, said Broadway Producer, Michael David, from Dodger Theatricals.

“This story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons has captivated nearly 15 million fans in productions worldwide, and now it is our fondest hope that Melbourne will again embrace Jersey Boys as it did during our remarkable visit in 2009.”

The two time Helpmann Award and seven time Green Room Award winning musical’s return season will commence on January 10, 2013 with tickets on sale from 16 July 2012. Official opening night is scheduled for January 12.

The 2012 Australian season will feature DION BILIOS as Frankie Valli, DECLAN EGAN as Bob Gaudio, ANTHONY HARKIN as Tommy De Vito and original Australian cast member GLASTON TOFT as Nick Massi.

  • Fantastic show in an unpopular theatre (seating very close & tight, no space for your legs & knees), not very popular with theatre crowd.

      • Sorry, but the Regent Theatre is my favourite theatre!! I agree with Ronald, Princess is very cramped with little space.

        • My favourite theatre for all sort of entertainment (opera, ballet, musicals etc) is the State theatre at the Melbourne arts centre, lots of space, soft seating and good view from all angles and class!!

  • Brilliant show..saw it at the Theatre Royal Sydney. Songs get you singing along..definite 'must see'. You don't need to be fans of 'Frankie Vali and the 4 Seasons'..but trust me, by the end of show if you not singing along or moving to the music, there must be something wrong with you. Songs still rolling around in my head weeks after seeing.

  • Been to see it twice now this past few weeks..here in Perth..brilliant...best show I've seen..driving my family nuts with my singing.
