In May 2011, Sydney company Squabbalogic will reprise its much-loved production of [title of show] (yes, that is its full and correct title!) – the hilarious and heart-warming tale of friendship, aspiration, and drag queen name games. It was last year’s definitive “show you totally should’ve seen”.

A comical collision where Sondheim meets Seinfeld, three-time Obie Award-winning [title of show] is musical theatre for everyone, from Broadway die-hards to sitcom fans and YouTube addicts. And you don’t have to be a Gleek to love it.

[title of show] is based on the real-life story of best friends Jeff and Hunter who, with just two weeks until the 2004 New York Music Theatre Festival, challenge themselves to write a show to submit. Comic book buff Jeff (Blake Erickson), and lifelong theatre nerd Hunter (Jay James-Moody), enlist their mates to help: “corporate whore” Susan (Keira Daley), Broadway rising-star Heidi (Lizzie Moore), and near-mute musician Larry (Paul Geddes).

Armed with four chairs, a keyboard, and Hunter’s procrastination sketchpad notebook, [title of show] chronicles its own creation, from paper to process to product. The fab five hit crazy highs and painful lows, meeting fancy VIPs and slaying creative “vampires” along the way. From festival to workshops to Off-Broadway, the critical question remains – will they make it to Broadway… with their show and their friendships intact?

Hunter Bell’s brilliant Tony-nominated script and Jeff Bowen’s catchy, witty and insightful songs are paired with Squabbalogic’s sparkly and highly-accomplished cast and crew, making for a fast-paced rollicking good time at the theatre.

“Nearly a year on, almost on a weekly basis, we are still told by our audiences what a profound impact [title of show] had on them,” said producer, Jessica Burns.

“We are so delighted that we can again present this unique show in Sydney, allowing everyone who loved it before the chance to enjoy it again – not to mention a great opportunity for everyone who didn’t get to see it first time around and have been begging us ever since to return!”
