Heathers The Musical announces Australian tour | April 2026

Dear Diary… September 1st, the day it all begins!

In celebration of Heathers Day, it is announced that the global phenomenon Heathers the Musical is coming to Australia. Following record-breaking seasons in London and New York, the award-winning production opens here April 2026.

The high-octane, black comedy rock musical – based on the cult 1989 film starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater – will play in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Canberra and Perth from April 2026, as part of a major Australia–New Zealand tour. The production will feature a stellar Australasian cast with the class of 2026 to be announced soon.

 

 

Welcome to Westerberg High, where popularity is a matter of life and death. Veronica Sawyer is just another nobody dreaming of a better day — until she’s unexpectedly taken under the wings of the beautiful and cruel Heathers. But when mysterious teen rebel J.D. arrives, Veronica soon learns that it might kill to be a nobody, but it’s murder being a somebody.

With a mercilessly catchy mix of ballads and bangers by award-winning writers Kevin Murphy (Desperate Housewives) and Laurence O’Keefe (Legally Blonde The Musical),Heathers the Musical is directed by acclaimed American screen and stage director Andy Fickman.

Since its sold-out Los Angeles premiere in 2013 and New York debut in 2014, Heathers has gone on to three smash-hit West End seasons, multiple sold-out UK and Ireland tours, and a 2019 WhatsOnStage Award win for Best New Musical. In 2022, it was filmed and streamed globally via The Roku Channel. Most recently, the show smashed records at New York’s New World Stages, opening in June 2025 to the biggest advance sale in the venue’s history and immediately extending due to demand. The stage capture of the London production hits cinemas across the country from September 4^th.
