A season of mystery and murder comes to the Genesian Theatre stage with the opening this weekend of Agatha Christie’s MURDER ON THE NILE. Christie’s plays have been favourites with Genesian audiences throughout the years, and this production marks the last time the celebrated author’s work will be performed at the company’s Kent Street location before their move to Rozelle.
Agatha Christie has long been seen as the unofficial ‘angel’ of the Genesians and all the classic Christie trademarks of suspense, intrigue and diverse characters feature in MURDER ON THE NILE.

Set in the early 1950s, MURDER ON THE NILE takes audiences on a voyage down the River Nile where every passenger becomes a suspect, keeping audiences guessing until the very end. The beautiful and wealthy Kay Mostyn is on her honeymoon, cruising on a luxurious paddle steamer with her dashing new husband, Simon. Soon the blissful atmosphere and idyllic surroundings are shattered by a shocking and brutal murder.
Tension rises and claustrophobia builds as a multitude of memorable passengers reveal they all have a motive to kill. Can clergyman and sleuth, Canon Pennefather, navigate a web of deceit and danger to unravel the truth and expose an audacious conspiracy?

As the Genesian Theatre Company prepares to move to their new premises in the St. Joseph’s precinct of Rozelle, audiences are invited to be part of a significant chapter in the theatre’s history. For one last time at Kent Street, Agatha Christie takes us on a journey that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats to the very end.
