Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre presents the world premiere of Fast Food by Morgan Rose (desert, 6:29pm), an original, poignant comedy that flips an ordinary day in a fast food restaurant, and propels us into the fantasies of its protagonists. Fast Food looks at the gig economy through the lives of five people just trying to dream of something better.
Some are there by choice, others just haven’t figured out what else they should be doing. Life starts to take on a new meaning when hands are busy…and hearts and minds begin to wander.
“Do you want the shittiest biscuit in all the land in exchange for like your soul?” – G (Team member).
Real, intelligent and incredibly funny, Fast Food is a moving, exhilarating piece about the realities of the fast-paced, soul-crushing world of ultra convenience. The world premiere of Fast Food is directed by Bridget Balodis (desert, 6:29pm, Jurassica), and features Red Stitch ensemble members Kevin Hofbauer (The Flick, Trevor, Tame) and Sarah Sutherland (desert, 6:29pm, Ulster American) alongside 2018 Graduate Actor Casey Filips (The Antipodes, Hydra) and special guests Isha Menon (Very Nice Pot Plants), and Chi Nguyen (Flake, Lotus).
This play was written as part of the INK writing program, supporting the creation and development of new Australian works. Fast Food is the second INK commission from playwright Morgan Rose, following her acclaimed work, desert, 6:29pm (also directed by Balodis), that premiered in 2017 and toured internationally in 2018.
Set and costume design is by Sophie Woodward, lighting design by Giovanna Yate Gonzalez, and sound design and composition by Danni Esposito. Premiering on May 18 at Red Stitch’s home on Chapel St, Fast Food runs until June 5.
