Foundry Theatre in Sydney’s triumphant opening plus extra artists announced for 2025

Foundry Theatre at Sydney Lyric opened triumphantly last week with five sold out performances by Tim Minchin, with audiences blown away by the venue’s incredible sound, its inFmate nature, and the unique and theatrical entry through backstage passageways.

Two new shows have been announced today – Prinnie Stevens’ Lady Sings Soul on 26 April and James Valen1ne’s Upbeat Revue on 27 April – adding to the venue’s already exciFng line up of live music, comedy, musical theatre and cabaret.

Up next at Foundry Theatre, running from 7 March to 13 April is NO LOVE SONGS, starring Keegan Joyce (Rake, Please Like Me) and Lucy Maunder (Chicago, Mary Poppins). A powerful and uplifting modern love story, it packs an emoFonal punch in its hearRelt songs, honest storytelling, and for anyone who gets the chaos of love.

Following on in April for four nights only is Kiss Me Kate, presented in the well-known Neglected Musicals format, script in hand. Amy Lehpamer and Joshua Robson have just been cast as Kate and
Fred, with more cast to come. Cole Porter’s legendary musical comedy includes Too Darn Hot, Always True To You (In my Fashion), Tom, Dick or Harry, and So In Love.

In April there will two nights of wonderful music. After the huge success of Lady Sings The Blues, Prinnie Stevens is ready to unleash her true essence with Lady Sings Soul, a journey of self-discovery
through the Fmeless sounds of soul music. Prepare to be transported by the soulful voices of legends
like Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Anita Baker, Chaka Khan, Sade, Toni Braxton, Beyoncé, and
more.

James Valentine’s Upbeat Revue is an aQernoon of sizzling organ riffs, comic detours, and radio stories that didn’t make it to air. Best known as the voice of AIernoons on ABC, James brings razorsharp wit and radio mischief to the stage, backed by a powerhouse band: Darren Heinrich (organ),  Sam Rollings (guitar), Nic Cecire (drums) and Liz Player, knockout vocalist from The Voice 2024.

The Foundry Theatre will bring a string of excepFonal comedy arFsts to the stage in April and May,
including mulF-award winning musical comedian Gillian Cosgriff with her new show, Fresh New Worries. In addiFon to being crowned winner of Best Show at the 2023 Melbourne Comedy FesFval, Gillian has also won hearts on Thank God You’re Here and QuesQon Everything.

Quick-wiged master of unscripted comedy gold, Akmal deals with hot topics in a hilarious and slightly offensive way, whilst Lawrence Mooney’s Dead Set Country sees him roughed up by locals, mourning dead wombats, talking with horses and having an abiding affair with a tractor.

The Umbilicals Brothers take the energy of live performance and the spectacle of cinema and smash
them together into a new show performed simultaneously on stage and on the big screen. The
Distraction: enabling your screen addiction.

From June, Foundry Theatre will transform into a French hotel, welcoming guests to L’Hôtel – an
immersive theatrical world of French intrigue from the minds of director Craig IloI and cocreator Stuart Couzens. Savour the champagne, graze on a French cheese board and meet the cast of characters who call L’Hôtel home – a crème de la crème of performers from the world of cabaret, burlesque and circus.

Born from the repurposing of Sydney Lyric’s rear stage, Foundry Theatre is a mulF-purpose, flexible, in Fmate performance space. After entering through the Sydney Lyric foyers, patrons are immersed in
a theatrical journey through backstage passageways to a vestibule with soaring ceilings and into the Foundry Theatre itself. The minimalist interior design and dynamic lighting immerses both performers and audiences alike, creating unforgetable theatre experiences where no two visits will be the same.
