Form Dance Projects and Riverside set to present The Little Black Dress Suite

In August, highly acclaimed choreographer Martin del Amo (Sydney Festival, Spring Dance) will take over Riverside Parramatta with his trademark grace and charm.

The Little Black Dress Suite features four short solos performed by some of Sydney’s finest names in contemporary dance: del Amo, Kristina Chan, Sue Healey, and Miranda Wheen.

“The Little Black Dress Suite is especially exciting,” del Amo said, “As it allows me to work with some of the dancers whose performative skills I admire most.”

Initially presented in vastly different contexts, the one thing the pieces have in common is the iconic fashion item – the Little Black Dress.

“The little black dress is an iconic piece of clothing, widely associated with feminine elegance and cocktail party glamour. In one of the solos the performer navigates an intricate web of invisible forces, only to discover she might not be appropriately dressed for the occasion. In another work, the dress lends the performer a diva-like allure, amplifying her deliciously languorous physicality. There is also a solo in which a male performer wears the dress, turning on its head the idea of the little black dress being synonymous with femininity.”

The Little Black Dress Suite is a delight for both performance and music aficionados, including a collaboration with Chronology Arts founder and award-winning young composer Alex Pozniak, an an irresistible Bob Fosse tribute to a score by acclaimed sound artist Gail Priest, and a dream-like meditation set to an operatic aria.
