Five slots left in Matthew Robinson’s acclaimed Singing Actor Workshop, Brisbane

Hurry! Matthew Robinson’s The Singing Actor Workshop Brisbane has only FIVE slots left – applications close May 17.

Last year, composer, performer and 2011 Churchill Fellowship winner Matthew Robinson presented readings of his latest musical Atlantis to an audience of musical theatre luminaries in New York including Stephen Schwartz, Disney Theatrical Productions and members of Cameron Mackintosh Ltd.

After enjoying enormous success internationally, Robinson is now back in Australia to present his Singing Actor Workshops across the country in an aim to help performers interpret musical theatre material with insights from the perspective of a composer/writer/lyricist.

The Singing Actor is a two-day musical theatre workshop which develops the core skills of authentic storytelling through scene and song. Participants in the workshop are exposed to the very latest in contemporary Australian musical theatre and will will masterclass their own choice of song, workshop scenes from Robinson’s award-winning musicals Metro Street, Happy People and Atlantis and work on brand new material from his upcoming projects.

“As I increasingly turn my hand to creating original musicals, my interest in seeing actors access the most authentic part of themselves through their work has become a personal passion”, Robinson told AussieTheatre.

Interpreting music is not simply as easy as learning the notes, and Robinson is eager to nurture and develop intelligent performers in a supportive masterclass environment.

“The answers are in the text, but so often we overlook them in favour of what I’ve come to call white noise. That can be as simple as being too aware of what sits outside the fourth wall through to confusion over combining too many acting methods without clarity of thought and focus.”

Robinson says the workshops will be beneficial for performers of any ages.

“Participants have ranged in age from 16-65 and anyone who is finding blocks in the work or themselves will walk away with a lot to consider.”

Only five spots remain for the Brisbane workshops which are set to take place on May 25 & 26. Harvest Rain Theatre Company are proudly hosting the event.
