Families can immerse themselves into a world of wonder and creativity at Arts Centre Melbourne these September school holidays, and beyond, with a range of family-friendly performances including Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox, Flying Fruit Fly Circus’ Girls with Altitude and the inaugural disability arts festival Alter State.

Through an incredible mix of theatre and circus, there will be options-galore for parents as Arts Centre Melbourne continues to provide a place for families to come together and share remarkable experiences.

Girls with Altitude is a high-octane circus show providing a world class performance from an all-female ensemble. Under the direction of Anni Davey, the Fruit Flies will take flight from 16 – 17 September at the Playhouse, with visuals by cartoonist Judy Horacek.

Fantastic Mr Fox will make its much-anticipated appearance bringing Roald Dahl’s larger than life story to the Playhouse stage from 20 – 24 September. Packed with Dahl-icious mischief, hilarious mayhem and humongous belly laughs, this mind-blowing stage adaptation is the perfect theatrical adventure for the whole family.

Families are invited to enjoy the upcoming and inaugural disability arts festival Alter State from 12 September – 8 October. In a world premiere, When The World Turns sees Arts Centre Melbourne commission a collaboration between Polyglot (AUS) and Oily Cart (UK). This work was created for children with complex disability and will challenge the boundaries of interactive art. Children and their families can see, hear, touch and smell this strange, rustling, breathing world as it reveals itself.

Women’s Circus new work Momentum will run on Arts Centre Melbourne’s Main Lawn and St Kilda walkway from 15 – 17 September. It will delve into a world of seemingly unconnected individuals and events, in a place that is governed by the unavoidable and constant cycles of time and change.

There will also be an opportunity for families to get involved at CheckPoint with the Nebula pop-up from Arts Access Victoria. Situated on Arts Centre Melbourne’s Forecourt from 14 September – 8 October there will be a variety of activities like badge making, grid drawing, Spanish language sessions and more.

And, if families are looking for fun theatre experiences for their little ones beyond the school holidays, ARC will be making its debut at the Fairfax Studio from 15 – 16 October. This new work by Erth explores the wonders of nature through exquisite puppetry giving families a chance to connect with nature and marvel at the connection that we share with all living things.

Arts Centre Melbourne’s year-round Families Program was launched in August 2009 and has grown in reputation to become a highly respected program nationally and internationally. Featuring intimate and large-scale theatre from some of the world’s most respected companies and a diverse range of interactive workshops, the program is robust and growing in size, scale and scope.
