Michael Falzon missed out on appearing in Floyd Collins when Kookaburra planned to present it in 2007, and he almost missed out again.
AussieTheatre.com can reveal that Falzon was caught up in the volcanic ash drama that shut down flights in and out of Europe.
Falzon, who is currently appearing in We Will Rock You in London and is flying home at his own expense to appear in a concert version ofFloyd Collins, managed to make it home just in time to start rehearsals.
Rehearsals began yesterday for next month’s production, with Falzon starting at 9am after arriving back in Australia at 6am thanks to the help and support of Qantas.
Floyd Collins will feature Peter Cousens and Falzon in the two lead roles, with other performers from the original Kookaburra cast: Trish Crowe, Phillip Hinton, Queenie van de Zandt, Nick Simpson Deeks, James Millar, Peter Meredith, Elliot Weston, Andrew Conaghan and Phillip Dodd.
Floyd Collins was programmed by Kookaburra, the National Music Theatre Company in 2007 as part of their inaugural season, and assembled an exciting Australian cast and band. But only days away from rehearsals, the show was cancelled. The members of the original Floyd Collins cast are now reuniting to present this great work in concert, with the original musical director Anne-Maree McDonald.
The show plays at the City Recital Hall on Monday, May 3. Bookings: (02) 8256 2222.
