End of an era: 2011 will be our final year

The end of a theatre media era will come in December next year after the Aussie Theatre Network confirmed it would close AussieTheatre.com, Australia’s leading theatre news website.

The end of a theatre media era will come in December next year after the Aussie Theatre Network confirmed it would close AussieTheatre.com, Australia’s leading theatre news website.

AussieTheatre.com Editor, Troy Dodds, announced in an opinion column today that he was moving on to face new challenges, despite the website still receiving excellent hits and unprecedented positive feedback.

“Overall, it is time for a change,” Dodds wrote.

“I have an undiluted passion for theatre, but after nine years in any job, you start to get itchy feet.  Moving on is the right thing to do, and I’ve made the decision to close the site, rather than sell it, to ensure its place is remembered for what it should be.”

AussieTheatre.com first launched as BroadwayAustralia.com in 2003.

It emerged as a theatre news leader, breaking some of the biggest stories in Australian theatre over the past eight years and providing unrivalled coverage of some of the biggest events and stories in the industry.

“I truly believe that AussieTheatre.com has played a significant role over the last decade or so at transforming the way theatre news is presented, and provided,” Dodds wrote.

“When we started the site back in 2003, there was no legitimate theatre news website, and the print media paid more attention to the industry than they do today.”

The website has released its 2011 logo, which pays tribute to the fact that it will be the site’s final year.

AussieTheatre.com will soon announce an array of exciting initiatives to celebrate its final year, including a farewell party in December 2011 and the biggest ever Rising Star competition, with unprecedented prizes. There will also be special flashbacks, and other great elements to ensure the site goes out with a bang.

There will also be a stronger commitment to news than ever before, including the introduction of audio news and minute-long ‘speedcasts’.

AussieTheatre.com would like to thank everyone for their continued support, and we look forward to delivering an incredible 2011 with you all.
