Emilia Nwakpa discusses OUT OF AFRICA

Emilia Nwakpa is a multitalented doctor who is also a dancer, actor and model from Ebonyi state, Nigeria and a graduate of the University of New South Wales. She began dancing in her childhood and she once emerged a winner in a milo dance competition held during her primary school days in Ebonyi State.

“Dancing is part of my own self”, Emilia says.

It’s in my bones, in my values in my soul. It’s also part of my people. That’s how I learned it. Watching ceremonies burials weddings.  There was dancing in the morning and dancing late at night. People seemed to dance all the time on dusty earth.

Despite many stuggles we as africans have faced dancing brings Africans together and removes isolation.  It is very important in the social fabric of my country.

In 2010, she got admitted to study biochemistry in Madonna University, Elele, Rivers state where she continued to explore her passion for dancing as a performer during social events. After 2 years of offering biochemistry in Madonna university she moved to Tbilisi, Georgia. She got deeply involved in entertainment and worked as a freelancer. She performed in shows such as the popular Georgian TV show “megobrebi”, Nigerian beauty pageant event. She danced with people from different parts of the world.

Traditional dance is mixed with other influences – that is what you will see in the Out of Africa show, afro modern styles and music.

She took part in music videos for instance the popular “Fire to the sun” by a famous Georgian singer Bera and a famous Nigerian singer Patoranking in 2020.

I would like to give that sense of dance to Australians. Health, posture, peace and beauty can all come from dance.
