Disney to release Hamilton filmed performance

Earlier today, Deadline reported that Disney had acquired the distribution rights to the recorded filming of Hamilton.

With music, lyrics, and book by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton has solidified itself as a cornerstone of modern Music Theatre. Based on the life of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, the show has won 11 Tony Awards, 10 Lucille Lortel Awards, 2 Outer Critics Circle Awards, 8 Drama Desk awards, 7 Olivier Awards, a Grammy, and a Pulitzer Prize, and many, many more.

The original Broadway cast opened in 2015, and the show has subsequently had 3 US tours, with a current West End production running. Hamilton will be premiering in Australia in March 2021 at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre.

The recording will be shown in American theatres on October 15th, 2021, and is set to be released on Disney+ for those who can’t get to cinemas or are outside of the US. The pro-shot recording was made in 2018 with the Original Broadway leading cast, including Lin-Manuel Miranda in the title role.
