Dirty Rotten Scoundrels extend their stay in Sydney

It was confirmed today by Producer George Youakim of James Anthony Productions that the Sydney premiere of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels will extend its season.

Due to popular demand, this outrageously funny musical starring Tony Sheldon, Matt Hetherington, Amy Lehpamer and John Wood will now play at Sydney’s Theatre Royal until 8 December, and tickets for all new performances will be on sale from this Friday.

Following a hugely successful opening night performance last Thursday 24 October, this production (based on the 1988 comedy film of the same name) has set social media platforms ablaze with enthusiastic responses from both within the industry and the wider public. AussieTheatre’s Cassie Tongue praised the production for “getting everything right” in her review of the musical last week.

It was a pleasure to watch this show. Bright, fun and full of laughs, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is everything we needed. This show is a reason to leave the house and go to the theatre. This show is the reason why people go back to the theatre.

Directed by Roger Hodgman, musically directed by Guy Simpson and choreographed by Dana Jolly, with sets by Michael Hankin, costumes by Teresa Negroponte and lighting by Nicholas Rayment, this laugh-a-minute romp is fast becoming Sydney’s surprise hit musical of the year.

With music and lyrics by David Yazbek and book by Jeffrey Lane, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was nominated for 11 Tony Awards (including Best Musical) and 10 Drama Desk Awards. We suspect several Helpmann Award nominations will be in order for this musical theatre gem – but don’t take our word for it! Head on down to the Theatre Royal and see for yourselves!
