It’s back! CJ Johnson’s satirical look at the ruthless world of Australia’s empire builders was a hit for Darlinghurst back in 2005/06, and now a new version created for the company’s new theatre is set to make us laugh all over again.
Michael Pigott will direct The Young Tycoons this May, and this will be familiar ground for him, as he directed both sell out shows the first time around.
“Still as edgy and incisive as ever, this contemporary piece has been reworked to bring it right up to today,” he said.
“With reimagined staging and design, a new cast and a different ending, audiences can expect the unexpected.”
Here’s the story: Australia’s two largest media barons hand over power to their sons. Fortunes are risked, secrets are exposed, unspeakable acts are performed and lives are ruined. It’s scandalous, salacious, and incisive.
Darlinghurst Theatre Company Director Glenn Terry says writer CJ Johnson. “taps into our desires and creates a seductive world that we secretly aspire to. The Young Tycoons is about power and extreme wealth and Johnson lures us in and presents its darker side.”
The cast includes Andrew Cutcliffe (Calendar Girls), Edmund Lembke-Hogan (All’s Well that Ends Well) John Turnbull (Hamlet), Lawrence Coy (The Removalists), Terry Serio (Hollywood Ending), Briallen Clarke (All My Sons), James Lugton (The Taming of the Shrew), Paige Gardiner (Marriage Blanc) and Gabrielle Scawthorn (Poetry in Action).
The Young Tycoons begins performances on 16th May. For bookings and more information visit www.darlinghursttheatre.com.
