Cry Me A River, Brisbane: Burchmore Sizzles in a tribute to Julie London

After rave reviews and sell-out shows at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Australia’s sexiest chanteuse Rhonda Burchmore brings Cry Me A River: The World of Julie London to Brisbane’s Powerhouse in February 2012 for eight shows only.

Julie London’s smooth and smokey voice evokes an intimate and sultry sound epitomized throughout her career. With her trademark pin-up girl sex appeal, London’s posters were a prized possessions of GI’s during World War II.  Now, after rave reviews and sell-out shows at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Australia’s sexiest chanteuse Rhonda Burchmore brings Cry Me A River: The World of Julie London to Brisbane’s Powerhouse in February 2012 for eight shows only.
Backed by a six-piece band, Rhonda  will dim the lights on February 1, 2012, and slink into the world of one of America’s most mysterious sirens, Julie London. Taking audiences to the West Coast Cool jazz scene of the 1950s and 1960s, she tells London’s story through a mix of sensuality and humour.  The set list for this show includes some of the great tunes of the era and Rhonda teases the audience and captures London’s effortless style while showcasing some of her biggest hits. Tunes written by legendary composers Cole Porter, Jules Styne and George & Ira Gershwin among others feature in the production – ‘Cry Me A River’, ‘Let There Be Love’, ‘Saturday Night (is the Loneliest Night in the Week)’, ‘Black Coffee’, ‘Hello Dolly’ and ‘The Party’s Over’ to name a few.  London’s long career spanned from the 1950s where she was named as Billboard’s most popular female vocalist from 1955 – ’57, was Cover girl on Life Magazine and had a starring role through the ‘70s on the popular medical drama Emergency! With roles in over 20 films and TV series, she has released over thirty albums and her enduring songbook continues to thrive on.  Cry Me A River: The World of Julie London is proudly produced by Bold Jack and tickets are now on sale for the Brisbane Powerhouse season. Call (07) 3358 8600 or visit www.brisbanepowerhouse.org to book tickets.
