Is Australia’s funniest teen under your roof? Hanging out at your local shopping centre? Is it you? The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is on a nation wide hunt to find Australia’s funniest teen (or teens) and if you think you could be it, its time to stand up!
2012 CLASS CLOWN COMPETITION: REGISTRATIONS OPEN OCTOBER 5
If you have a flair for catching people unaware, tickling a funny bone at school and at home, love making unnecessary commentary or singing tunes that make you look like a loon, these are the type of teens that should apply!
No matter where you live in Australia, if you are within the age range, you can enter as a solo act or in a group of up to three members. All you need to do is come up with your own original five minutes of stand-up, sketch, musical parody or something wild in between, participate in a workshop with a professional practicing comedian, and then present your act at a real, live, public performance.
Professional festival comedians will be heading out to venues around the country during Term One 2012 to work with teenagers’ comedy routines, host them in live gigs and to find the cream of the funny crop from each state and territory. The 2012 Class Clowns National Grand Final will then take place on Friday 20 April during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, where the winners from each state and territory will compete for the Class Clown crown, $1000 for themselves and $1000 for their school! ?Class Clowns is the flagship event of the Comedy Festival’s education program. Much more than simply a comedy competition, this mentoring program develops the art of comedy from Darwin to Hobart, Perth to Newcastle and in 15 centres overall.
It’s free to register so go online to sign up and find out where heats are being held around the country
