Broadway Unplugged launched last year with great success in Sydney and Brisbane as the Australian music theatre and performance fraternity’s most exciting new industry event

Now, the hugely popular event finally makes its Melbourne debut and AussieTheatre can exclusively confirm the details of Melbourne’s first Broadway Unplugged show next week!

The Broadway Unplugged concept was initiated by producer George Youakim who wished to support the musical theatre industry and to provide a platform for performers to do what they do best – perform in a supportive environment.

The event is divided into two sections: a selection of featured artists and an open mic night.

The first four featured artsits have been confirmed – with Michael Griffiths (Jersey Boys, Priscilla) Declan Egan (Jersey Boys )Dean Vince (King Kong) and Emily Cascarino (Jersey Boys) taking to the stage from 8pm to strut their stuff.

The open mic night commences at 9:30pm and is open to anyone who wishes to jump up and perform a number with the talented Broadway Unplugged band musically directed by Danielle Buatti. Registration for the open mic must be completed online prior to the event and a standby list will be available once slots are filled.

“Broadway Unplugged was unexpectedly successful in Brisbane and in Sydney” George Youakim told AussieTheatre.

“Sydney ran for 6 months solid and the audiences were great and the open mic singers for every single show were just second to none. The talent we have in this country is unreal and I’m learning that every single day.”

Youakim is thrilled to be bringing the event to Melbourne after months of request from performers and fans alike, and he has one piece of advice!

“Melbourne performers get your music ready, we’re coming!”

So if you are in Melbourne this Monday, be sure to head to the brand new Butterfly Club on Carson Place (off Little Collins Street between Swanston and Elizabeth Streets) to check out this exciting new event, see the stars of Jersey Boys and King Kong perform and celebrate our industry by having a sing in a supportive and relaxed environment.
