Club Origami

Sydney Dance Company presents its first ever season for pre-school aged children, with the Australian premiere of the critically acclaimed UK production Club Origami.

This July, young children and their grownups can dive into the magical world of Club Origami, a celebrated kids work presented in association with UK-based artist collective Seven Circles.

Sydney Dance Company Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela:

We are utterly thrilled to present our first ever season for pre-school aged children and couldn’t ask for a more wonderous and generous work than Club Origami. We exist to share the joy of dance with everyone, and this is a very important first step in fostering lifelong creative engagement with our littlest audiences yet.

Created by Takeshi Matsumoto, Makiko Aoyama and Robert Howat, this immersive and interactive dance show invites family audiences to create, imagine and explore new ways of thinking, playing and moving.

Made purely of paper and play, this fantastical world nurtures young children’s innate wonder and curiosity. Club Origami is the perfect introduction to dance for little ones and celebrates the freedom of expression that comes with movement.

To continue the adventure, children and their families are invited to ‘stay and play’, post-performance at Sydney Dance Company’s Neilson Studio.

“This imaginative stage show is ripping fun for under-fives…” The Guardian

The Australian premiere of Club Origami is supported by the Naomi Milgrom Foundation. The work was commissioned and produced by Little Big Dance – a pioneering UK-based initiative creating new dance work for pre-school aged children, led by South East Dance in partnership with DanceEast, Take Art and Yorkshire Dance.

Club Origami will feature the original UK cast as well as an Australian cast including critically acclaimed performer Ryuichi Fujimura (INDance 2023) with Reina Takeuchi and musician Selina Myat (Dummer Queens).
