Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is headed to Melbourne

It was announced this week that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be heading to Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne at the completion of their current Sydney Season.

As productions such as this use local child talent (rather than touring children away from their homes) the search has started for the four Melbourne boys to play the principal role of Charlie, and auditions will be held in May.

The cost includes original Broadway cast member Paul Slade Smith appearing as Willy Wonka, Australian show business royalty Tony Sheldon (Priscilla, Queen of the Desert) as the Ninety and a half year old Grandpa Joe. The role of Mrs Bucket is Lucy Maunder (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Matilda: The Musical). Jake Fehily and Octavia Barron Martin play Augustus Gloop and Mrs Gloop, Karina Russell and Stephen Anderson are Veruca Salt and Mr Salt, Jayme-Lee Hanekom plays Violet Beauregard with Madison McKoy as Mr Beauregard, and Harrison Riley and Jayde Westaby are Mike Teavee and his mother Mrs Teavee.

Tickets are expected to sell well after a very successful Sydney season, with many performances sold out.  Sales open to the general public on Friday 15 March at 1 pm with tickets and more information available at Charliethemusical.com.au
