Cause Celeb: come to the indoor picnic and cabaret!

Are you ready for a night full of remarkably talented performers and a look back on 70 years of Sydney entertainment? You should check out Cause Celeb – An Indoor Picnic and Cabaret on Sunday 7 September.

Get together a group and bring a picnic basket, because you’re going to go on a ride. In song and story, the show will trace the history of Sydney performance for the past 7 decades, ever since the foundation of the Actors’ Benevolent Fund.

The Tivoli! JCW musicals! Phillip Street Revues! STC, Ensemble, Belvoir! Nimrod and Stables! It’s a lot of exciting detail, history, and art to cover, and musical highlights from each era will be recreated, sometimes even by the stars that made them happen.

Performers for the night will include: iOTA, Paul Capsis, Jonathan Biggins, Christine Anu, Mitchell Butel, Simon Burke, Genevieve Lemon, Christine Douglas, Peter Carroll, Noeline Brown, Donna Lee, Georgie Parker, Katrina Retallick, Trevor Ashley, Chloe Dallimore, Helen Dallimore, Angela Ayers, Tyran Parke, Geraldine Turner, Maria Venuti, Jackie Love, Margi De Ferranti, Garry Scale, Laura Murphy, Blake Bowden and many more.

Proceeds from this event will go towards The Actors Benevolent Fun, a non proft charitable organisation that provides assistance to professional performers who, due to injury, illness, or disability are unable to work, either temporarily or in some cases for the rest of their lives.

“The idea of actors performing to help their own was pioneered in Australia by the late Gladys Moncrieff,” said ABF Committee member David Mitchell.

“She gave a gala concert for fellow actors who had fallen on hard times back in the 1940s.  Since then, The Actors Benevolent Fund has helped countless actors stricken with illness and misfortune.

“We’re so proud that so many in the performing arts industry are prepared to give of their time and talent to celebrate the great work of the Fund.”

The night will be directed by Stuart Maunder with musical direction by Michael Tyack, and will be held at the Joan Sutherland Rehearsal Room at the Opera Centre in Surry Hills.
