Time to Celebrate Australian Cast of THE PROM

The cast has been announced for the upcoming Australian premiere of THE PROM, the Tony nominated Broadway hit set to light up Sydney in March 2026. The award winning musical comedy will play at the newly revitalised Teatro at the Italian Forum, with tickets now on sale.

Leading the company is Australian theatre icon Caroline O’Connor, who takes on the role of Broadway diva Dee Dee Allen. O’Connor is currently appearing in Putting It Together at The Foundry and brings an extraordinary international career spanning Broadway, the West End, France and Australia, with standout roles in Chicago, Anything Goes, 9 to 5 The Musical, West Side Story and Anastasia.

At the heart of the story are its young leads, with Sophie Montague as Emma Nolan, the high school student banned from attending prom, and Paige Fallu as Alyssa Greene, the student council president hiding a secret. Renae Corser née Berry plays the no nonsense Broadway chorus girl Angie Dickinson, while Brendan Monger takes on Barry Glickman. Brad Green appears as press agent Sheldon Saperstein and Thern Reynolds stars as Trent Oliver. Erin Bruce plays PTA president Mrs Greene, with Scott Irwin as theatre loving principal Mr Hawkins.

The supporting cast includes Murray Cunynghame as Nick, Ewan Herdman as Kevin, Abbey McPherson as Shelby and Nina Hurley as Kayley. The ensemble features Isabella Colusso, Rafael Gill, Sophie Gulloch, Kye Hall, Clementine Jenkins, Bella McSporran, Brock Rankmore, Jack Ryan, Sophie Sutton and Jasper Wind, with Siena Bucknall and Justin Sacco as swings.

The production is directed by Teatro co founder Andrew Bevis, with co direction and choreography by Teatro co founder Nathan M Wright and musical direction by Bev Kennedy. The Prom features a book by Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin, music by Matthew Sklar, and lyrics by Beguelin.

Wright and Bevis said choosing The Prom as Teatro’s third musical was both deliberate and deeply personal, noting its infectious energy and message of love, acceptance and belonging. They described the cast as a powerful mix of established performers and emerging voices, united by a fearless and joyful approach to storytelling.

Described by New York Magazine as “a smart, big hearted musical” and praised by Variety for being “so full of happiness that you think your heart is about to burst”, The Prom follows four eccentric Broadway stars who descend on a small town to help a student who simply wants to take her girlfriend to the school dance.

The musical premiered at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta in 2016 before transferring to Broadway, where it earned seven Tony Award nominations and won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical. A film adaptation directed by Ryan Murphy and starring Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Ariana DeBose was released on Netflix in 2020.
