Cancer Council announced as charity partner for The Sound of Music Australia

It was announced today that Cancer Council have been named as the official national charity partner for the current Australian tour of The Sound of Music. 

Over the duration of the show’s four-city tour in 2016, bucket collections at selected performances as well as proceeds from final dress rehearsal performances in Brisbane and Melbourne will raise funds for Cancer Council’s work in cancer support, research, advocacy and prevention. With an estimated 126,800 new cases of cancer diagnosed in Australia this year, more than $4.5 billion in direct health system costs are needed for cancer-related issues annually. This partnership will be a welcome addition to awareness campaigns and fundraising for Caner Council Australia.

“We’re very proud to have been named the official charity partner nationally for The Sound of Music, and thank all theatre-goers for their generosity and outstanding support on behalf of all Australians affected by cancer,” said Cancer Council CEO Professor Sanchia Aranda.

On behalf of his co-producers, John Frost said, “I am thrilled again to partner with Cancer Council after working closely with them on other shows. I’d like to thank patrons who will support the work of this wonderful charity by buying tickets to a dress rehearsal or donating after performances.”

Currently playing its premiere season until 28 February at the Capitol Theatre Sydney, The Sound of Music travels to Brisbane’s Lyric Theatre from 11 March, Melbourne’s Regent Theatre from 13 May and the Festival Theatre Adelaide from 9 August.

The Australian production of this legendary Rodgers and Hammerstein musical stars Amy Lehpamer (Rock of Ages, Once) as Maria Rainer and Cameron Daddo (Legally Blonde, Big River) as Captain Georg von Trapp, starring alongside Marina Prior (Mary Poppins, The Secret Garden) as Baroness Schraeder, Jacqueline Dark (Opera Australia’s Aida, Don Giovanni) as Mother Abbess, Lorraine Bayly (Calendar Girls, The Sullivans) as Frau Schmidt and David James (Playschool, Avenue Q) as Max Detweiler.
