Earlier this year renowned music theatre and cabaret composer John Bucchino came to Melbourne from New York to accompany a cast of seven actors in his musical review It’s Only Life.
Mr Bucchino was so taken with the cast and creative’s interpretation of his show that he has invited them to come to New York and perform a concert version at the famous cabaret venue – Birdland. It’s Only Life is a musical review focused around the theme of “life” and everything that goes with it including love, loss, joy, anger, anxiety, gratitude and contentment. It is a piece of theatre written from the heart by a man who has the inexplicable ability to evoke complex emotion in every lyric and musical phrase. Watching It’s Only Life takes you on an emotional journey leaving you with the feeling you have just experienced something very special.
If you missed the show the first time around, the cast will be presenting the same concert version they will be presenting at Birdland with all profits going straight into funding the trip for the artists. Details of this performance will be announced shortly.
The cast travelling to New York include Zack Anthony Curran (pictured), Sam Rabbone, Laura Fitzpatrick, Maddie Featherby, Pheobe Coupe, Cameron Thomas and Christian Cavallo.
Zack Anthony Curran (My Fair Lady, Hello Dolly and a finalist in the 2009 Rob Guest Endowment) is no stranger to New York, having already tread the boards in the home of musical theatre. In 2006, he performed the role of Tex Rickard in The Good Fight – a musical by Nick Enright and David King at the New York Music Theatre Festival. Pheobe Coupe (High School Musical, Sugar) is currently performing as lead vocalist on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship and will join the cast in New York, while new cast member Laura Fitzpatrick (Merrily We Roll along, Title Of Show) will begin rehearsal for the production once she has completed a season at Theatreworks in Flowerchildren – The Mamas and Papas Story.
It’s Only Life will play at Birdland in New York on the 14th of November with an all Australian cast.
