Brisbane creatives reimagine Andrew Lloyd Webber’s intimate musical for a modern audience

Paterson Productions will present Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tell Me On A Sunday at the Ron Hurley Theatre from 3–5 September, bringing a fresh contemporary perspective to one of musical theatre’s most heartfelt stories.

Starring Brisbane performer Samantha Paterson and directed by Sherryl-Lee Secomb, the production reimagines the classic one-woman musical for today’s world of smartphones, online communication and long distance relationships. While the technology has changed, the search for love, belonging and identity remains timeless.

The story follows an ordinary woman who leaves home believing a new city and a new relationship will give her the life she’s always dreamed of. As she navigates love, heartbreak and unexpected turns, she discovers that the greatest journey isn’t finding someone else—it’s finding herself.

Paterson:

Producer and performer Samantha Paterson believes that’s why the work continues to resonate.

This isn’t simply a story about romance . It’s about hope, reinvention and discovering who you are when life doesn’t go according to plan. I think everyone can see a little of themselves in that journey.

The production also showcases an all-Brisbane creative team, with direction by Sherryl-Lee Secomb and musical direction by Meg Kiddle and Benjamin Richards.

With Andrew Lloyd Webber’s soaring score—including favourites such as Unexpected Song, Take That Look Off Your Face and the title number—Tell Me On A Sunday offers an intimate evening of music and storytelling that speaks to anyone who has ever taken a chance on love, moved away from home, or started again.
